I would like you to “virtually” meet Indu! This bride put all of her trust into my hands. She told me what she was looking for and how she wanted to be seen as a bride who looked unique but also simple. She did not want to look overdone but she did want to radiate a natural look that was flawless with a touch of drama.
When I arrived at her house, Indu was like any bride, Indian or Western, I noticed that she definitely had a case of the butterflies. Part of my job as a makeup artist is to come in and provide a calming and reassuring presence to the bride and her family. Most times I end up acting as the “big sister” giving advice on Indian ceremonies and rituals as even the parents are nervous about doing things correctly. With 13 years of experience, I can definitely provide some guidance even while the house may be buzzing with energy, people coming and going, all while I am still completely focused on the bride.
Once Indu was ready for the day, I approached her to leave, her eyes filled with tears and I once again reassured her before leaving. She was touched my genuine concern and she hugged me and said, “I can’t wait to see you tonight!”. Indu is a very young bride and she is the same age I was when I got married. She reminded me a lot of me!
Her emotions touched me in a way that I felt good about what I do for each and every one of my brides. I feel honored that so many women choose me as their makeup and hair artist for the most important day of their lives. This is why I love what I do and I can’t ever see myself doing anything else!
